Our Story
Horizon Kids Center was founded by Sadana Thotapolakumbura, a dedicated mother and educator with a deep passion for early childhood development. Originally from Sri Lanka, Sadana has called Washington State home since 2008, bringing her rich cultural background and warm, caring nature to our community.
The lighthouse in our logo represents our guiding philosophy - just as a lighthouse provides safe passage for ships navigating challenging waters, we provide guidance, safety, and direction for children as they navigate their early years of learning and development.
After spending many years as a stay-at-home mom and working as a home care aide while volunteering in preschools and elementary schools, Sadana realized that caring for children was truly her life's calling. This experience, combined with raising her own three wonderful children, inspired her to create a space where every child feels at home, supported, and celebrated.
Today, we're proud to serve families in Mukilteo and surrounding areas, creating a warm, nurturing environment where children can grow with confidence and joy.

Meet Our Team
Our experienced, caring staff are the heart of Horizon Kids Center

Sadana Thotapolakumbura
CEO & Founder
Hello! My name is Sadana Thotapolakumbura. My husband, Suneth, and I have been happily married for 21 years, and we are the proud parents of three wonderful children: Kavindu (a senior at the University of Washington), Nihinsa (heading into her freshman year of college), and Kamilia (currently in middle school).
Originally from Sri Lanka, we have been blessed to call Washington State our home since 2008. I spent many years as a stay-at-home mom, dedicating myself fully to raising my children and caring for our home. Along the way, I also worked as a home care aide and volunteered in preschools and elementary schools, gaining valuable experience and deepening my love for caring for children.
I am a warm and caring person by nature, and I value building genuine, trusting connections with both children and families. My goal is to create a safe, loving space where every child feels at home, supported, and celebrated. It's an honor to partner with you in your child's early learning journey.

Nihinsa Thotapolakumbura
Assistant Teacher
My name is Nihinsa, and I am Sadana's eldest daughter. I'm 18 years old and have been fortunate to gain a lot of hands-on experience working in early learning and childcare. I started working part-time at Tiny Acorns Childcare when I was 16 and have earned the proper certifications to work in the field while going to school.
Being around children and supporting their growth has been a meaningful part of my life, and it's a role I cherish deeply. I was recently accepted to UC Berkeley and am now preparing to pursue my path in the medical field, though I am still deciding on my final college choice.
While continuing my education, I am also dedicated to helping my mom bring her dream daycare to life. I plan to stay actively involved in the daily operations as much as possible, ensuring that every child feels safe, happy, and cared for, just like my mom did for us growing up. This daycare is a true labor of love, grounded in care, trust, and the belief that every child deserves a warm and supportive start in life.
A Special Mother-Daughter Team
As a mother and daughter, we share not only a close bond but also a deep passion for caring for children. Working side by side has brought us even closer, blending experience with fresh energy and a shared commitment to creating a warm, nurturing space for every child who joins us. Together, we are proud to build a daycare filled with love, learning, and a true sense of family.
